Haley Joel Osment, Michael Caine, and Robert Duvall and are set to topline the New Line Cinema comedy "Secondhand Lions," which Tim McCanlies ("The Iron Giant") will direct from his script. The project is a coming-of-age story about a young boy (Osment) forced to spend the summer with two complete strangers -- his eccentric great-uncles (Duvall and Caine) who have mysterious, dangerous pasts. "This is a phenomenal screenplay, one of the best I've ever read, and it's the kind of movie that is tough to define but many people will relate to," New Line president of production Toby Emmerich said.



Secondhand Lions follows the comedic adventures of an introverted 14 year-old boy (Haley Joel Osment) who reluctantly finds himself spending the summer with a pair of cranky, eccentric great-uncles (Michael Caine and Robert Duvall). At first appalled by their gruff uncaring manner, over time he becomes enthralled with his uncles as the exotic tales and remembrances of their own youthful exploits introduce the boy to a world of imagination and wonder and re-ignites the old men's spirits.
