I am the home of the longest suspension bridges (Mackinac) in North America. Is the third longest suspension bridges in the world. It is nearly 300 feet longer than the Golden Gate Bridge. From my lower northern shoreline, it reaches 5 miles over the narrowest part of the lake to my upper southern shoreline. The Mackinac Bridge (also called the "Mighty Mac" by the Michigan residents). Mighty Mac was opened for use in November 1957 and has drawn many travelers, nationwide, who come to see it and to cross over it. Contruction on bridge began in 1954.... In 2007, Mackinac Bridge celebrate it's 50th anniversary...

On the west side of the bridge you see Lake Michigan and to the east you can see Lake Huron. For a few decades now, on Labor Day, the 5 mile long bridge walk is held with my Governor leading the walk-a-cross. Many people come to join in on the walk-a-cross. Below is a link to image galleries, you will find some beautiful photos of the Mackinac Bridge in the Bridge Gallery.
